In my thrifting adventures, I’ve been hunting for the perfect salt and pepper shakers. I have yet to find them, but I know one day *bam* they’ll be right in front of my face.
In the meantime, I like admiring some of the ones on Etsy…
Do you have a beloved set of S&P shakers?
This past weekend was the first Saturday and Sunday Mike has had off work since back in September. We spent the day goofing around exploring a bunch of fun little shops.
First we went to Graham’s Used Records, Tapes & CDs. I’ve never seen so much vinyl in my life!

Boston’s Amanda on a 45? You know I had to have it! (Uh, hello — it does have my name written all over it! HA.)
The other shop that we spent a lot of time exploring had a little bit of everything … and when I say everything, I’m not exaggerating. It rivaled every episode of Hoarders that I’ve ever seen. The shelves went floor to ceiling and there were only about 3 feet between them. Most aisles were so tightly jammed that if you wanted to get down an aisle someone else was browsing, you had to back track and go around because there wasn’t enough room for two people to pass by each other without knocking things over.

There was a serious Polaroid graveyard. I was tempted… but I just don’t know enough about them to know good from bad or what model I should get, etc. They were fun to dig through though.
I’m kicking myself now for not grabbing those juice glasses; when I was a kid, my mother had the bigger drinking glasses that were that same print.
Am I the only one that gets a warm-fuzzy when you run across 80s stuff you remember from your childhood?
. . . .

Today was an epic day of thrifting! I don’t normally have high hopes for Saturdays; the crowds are too big and things are too picked over.
First I stopped at All Season’s Marketplace and found this adorable spice rack that was half price. I love bargains!

(Do you love my kitchen witch?! It was my grandmother’s.)
Then I stopped at Goodwill. Goodwill is always hit or miss. I found an amazing pair of heels, but unfortunately they were only a size 5. I debated over a couple purses but in the end, I walked out with two cute little bracelets for about $4.

On my way home, I stopped at Mel and Tee’s New and Used shop. It was my second time there and by far my favorite part is when you walk in the front door, you’re greeted by a rainbow of beautiful glass…

The picture doesn’t remotely do it justice! The glass is all grouped by color and the shelves have white twinkle lights behind them, so everything just sparkles. (It kind of makes me want to drag it all home with me and display it the same way!)
Anyway, I scored BIG time at Mel & Tee’s today …

I found two small Fire King casserole dishes in the patterns I already collect (Primrose and the hand-painted Peach Blossom by Gay Fad Studio). The little dish on the left I grabbed on a whim because it looked like it might be another Gay Fad piece. After doing some research, I believe I was correct — I think it’s the “Fruit” pattern, 4″ refrigerator dish.
I haven’t been able to identify the 8″ square dish on the right. The bottom just says “Ovenware”. It’s not important, though — I thought the yellow daisies are super happy-looking and it’s going to be perfect for baking brownies!
The best part? Each piece was only $4 and they knocked a dollar off for the heck of it, so I got ALL the pieces above for $15!
This little guy also really wanted to come home with me …

C’mon!! It’s the 7up Dot! I have such fond memories of those commercials (my favorite was the Christmas one). It was only $15 too, but then I realized we don’t have home telephone service (just cell phones) and Mike would probably think I’d lost my mind. Hopefully someone will love him and give him a great home though!
While others are out scouring the stores for Black Friday deals today, I’m at home admiring the vintage treasures that I brought home last night. I made an off-hand mention at Thanksgiving dinner, saying I had been keeping my eye out for some vintage Pyrex. Leave it to my mother — she hopped up, went to the garage, and started pulling these beautiful pieces out of a metal cabinet. Turns out, they all belonged to my great grandmother. Clearly, she had fantastic taste!

First, my favorite: black snowflake Pyrex. I had seen the pale blue snowflake pattern, but never the matte black. I did a little reading online and it appears the color was actually called “charcoal” and the pattern is from 1957. I’m already trying to come up with a good casserole recipe for Christmas so I have an excuse to put this dish to use and on display!
But that’s not all …

There was also this assortment of Fire King pieces, in two patterns. The pink flowered pieces on the right are from the “Peach Blossom” line of Fire King, which was produced by Anchor Hocking in the mid 1950s, I believe (if someone can help me with the years for this pattern, I’d appreciate it) and painted by Gay Fad Studio.
[EDIT: Thanks to @julieanneknits, I found out that the Peach Blossom pattern was produced 1954-1955. Thank you!!]

The other pattern is called Primrose and according to this site (her collection is amazing!), this particular pattern is from 1960-1962.
I love how Great Gram kept the label from the Primrose pieces — it was tucked inside one of the casserole dishes for safekeeping. Little details like that make it all the more special to me.
If anyone can share more information about these particular patterns/pieces with me, I’d love to learn more!
