I’ve always been more of a vampire girl myself (Louis? Barnabas? Eric?–Oh yes!), but somewhere along the line, zombies have by far trumped all the other supernatural creatures in terms of popularity. (I blame Stephenie Meyer for effing things up.)
I had no idea, however, just how popular zombies have really become; according to a study by 24/7 Wall Street, the zombie industry is worth over $5 billion!
Here’s the breakdown:
- Zombie Movies: $2.5 billion
- Zombie Video Games: $2.5 billion
- Zombie comic books, magazines and TV: $50 million
- Zombie Halloween costumes: $500 million
- Zombie books/novels: $100 million
- Zombie conventions and walks: $10 million
That’s a lot of undead cash-flow right there.
