Generating My Own Sunshine

I’ve been in a mood lately. It’s a difficult mood to define. But it occurred to me that from the time I was a kid in elementary school, I’d always get these “winter-blahs” around about January or February. I remember my mom observing each year how suddenly I’d go from bringing home papers with big A’s at the top, to seeing B’s and occasional C’s. My mind was just elsewhere.

My mind has been wandering lately and blaming it on the “winter-blahs” makes me feel a little better about it. (Better than accepting I’m lacking direction right now and have a terminal case of the lazies.)

Everything feels heavy right now. I struggle to explain it using any other word. Oppressive feels a little too dramatic, but perhaps a scaled-back version of the same feeling is suitable. Life feels stagnant, dark, and cluttered. I want bright, clean, and colorful: a fresh sparkle and shiny coat of paint on everything around me. I want bright, happy sunshine.

I am so grateful to be past the shortest day of the year. The days are getting longer and the sunshine is getting more plentiful. Meanwhile, I’ve decided that I need to learn how to generate my own sunshine. (Figuratively speaking.)

Generating My Own Sunshine

This week, to bring more sunshine into my life, I’m going to …

(1) Use my sewing machine to make something.
(2) Clean and organize the bathroom, then take a relaxing bubble bath with a good book!
(3) Go to the gym at least 2 times. { Workouts = Endorphins = HAPPY! }
(4) Clean out the office enough to get my desktop computer set up and running again.
(5) Go treasure-hunting in local thrift shops.

What are your ideas for bringing sunshine into your life & chasing away those winter-blahs? How do you motivate yourself to get out of the house and have more fun? What 5 things can you think of to do this week to bring more sunshine into your life (or the lives of those around you?
