Beers, Bowling and Father’s Day

I have the best Daddy ever. He love-love-loves bowling so I decided to go bowling with him for Father’s Day this year.

Dad plays on several leagues (I’ve lost count) at four different bowling alleys around town. He’s pretty good (he had a personal best of 688 for 3 games last week) and really fun to watch!

Me? I’m a terrible bowler. Of course, he and I figured out that I’ve only bowled about 6 times total in my entire life — and 4 of those 6 times were while I was still in middle and high school. So I have an excuse to be terrible. (Right?) I managed to break 100 in one game tonight (got a 116 to be exact) for the first time EVER, thanks to my dad’s coaching! He seriously has infinite patience and just gives me one pointer at a time so I don’t get overwhelmed and frustrated. I might be almost 30 … but I still did a little jig across the alley when I got a couple strikes!

After bowling five games, we celebrated Father’s Day (and my breaking 100!) with a couple beers. I don’t really drink beer, but I thought beer was an appropriate drink while hanging out with dad and eating pizza and bowling. (But yah, it was sissy-beer, ha ha.)

While technically our bowling trip was a gift for him, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed myself. I was always a “Daddy’s-little-girl”, but it was fun to get to bond with him as an adult. I’m kind of re-discovering just how much I enjoy hanging out with my dad. I think I might just have to start bowing more often…
