Normally I complain about doing laundry. I dread doing it. My washer and dryer are still packed away in my storage unit, so I have to pack up our hampers and go to my parents’ house, and though I enjoy visiting my parents, the whole thing is just a giant pain in the butt.
Today I took our giant pile of dirty laundry to the laundromat instead, so I could get it done faster. It was really the last thing I wanted to do today, but once I was there, it hit me: laundromats are pretty enjoyable places to be.

There were quite a few people in the laundromat, but it was quiet. People were methodically tending to their work, reading, or just watching their dryers turn. The only sound was the gentle whirr of washers and dyers, and the whole place smelled of lavender fabric softener. It was really easy to get entranced by the white-noise and gentle smell.
I was standing there matching socks when it hit me what a lovely place a laundromat could be. Sure, it’s no spa retreat … but it was incredibly relaxing. It was a surprisingly enjoyable (and productive!) way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

i LOATHE doing laundry but don’t have a washer/dryer… and have actually really started to love going to the laundromat. in my neighborhood, there are a bunch of regulars and it’s always fun to see them. plus i get a lot of reading/journaling done while i’m there and the owners planted a cute little garden complete with a d.i.y. irrugation set up. my only complaint is that it’s two blocks away instead of the half block sf got me used to :) also there are no front loaders, only top loaders but the people make up for it. plus where else can i get my two weeks worth of laundry done in two hours. it would take all day + more responsibility to do it with just one washer!

I get therapy from all house chores – especially washing dishes!!!

I also like going to the laundromat, I just wish I had a car to take me and my laundry there, I use a crappy bicycle now. I go really early in the morning when it’s still a nice and quiet place to be, around noon mommies start coming in with kids and they run and scream all over the place and that takes the fun out of laundry!
